The densely wooded Darrah Sanctuary is spread across an area of 250 square kilometres over a hilly terrain. Earlier, it was a royal hunting ground for the former Maharaja of Kota. In the year 1955, it was declared as a protected area. Rivers form the natural boundaries of this sanctuary. The Jackal, Leopard, Sambar, Nilgai and Hyena are its resident species.
A tourist's visit to the Darrah Sanctuary can be complimented by a visit to the far famed Gagron Fort near Jhalawar. It is located on the fringes of the sanctuary. Some other ancient temples are also located nearby.
A trip to the Darrah Sanctuary is truly a rewarding experience as it enables a tourist to see the wildlife facet as well as the rich past of Rajasthan.
